American Pika
American Pika (Ochotona princeps) are tiny Lagomorphs- cousins to rabbits and hares. They live in cold mountain environments, generally making their homes in talus and scree in the alpine. These creatures cannot handle warm temperatures, which makes them ultra vulnerable to climate change, as they cannot go higher to find colder conditions. American Pika are the species I am most passionate about and most drawn to.
I work with them year round and have collected long-term visual data on their behaviors, lives and social structures. My book The American Pika: Notes From The Field is a great way to learn more about these mighty mammals. To learn more about American Pika in the San Juan Mountains, click here.
